China is a fan of short shorts. A fan, I might add, regardless of leg shape or size. I have seen many a pair of pants that, whilst not entirely Kylie Minogue circa Spinning Around, are only maybe an inch or two from it.
It seems that cleavage, on the other hand, is much less common. (more…)

Shang-wow – part 2

I type this blog from my apartment in Beijing. There are 3 hairy crabs (live, bound and in a plastic bag) on the bench by the kitchen sink. I am tempted to liberate them in some big, plush aquarium-esque centrepiece for the coffee table.Time for a change of topic…

Shang-wow!

Maybe it’s the luxurious feel of the Intercontinental Shanghai Expo (being accompanied to the room by front of house, the view from the room etc) and hitting all the glam spots in the 24 hours since arriving, but Shanghai feels very different from Beijing….and I like it. 798 District

There's some great graffiti around 798. It deserves a separate post, and will get one later!
798 District (http://www.798district.com/) began as a military-industrial venture between the Chinese, Russians and East Germans back in the 50s. In the mid 90s it began to transform into a space for artists and galleries and is now a thriving community with a very broad spectrum of works on display and for sale.
Outdoor sculpture is scattered around the buildings. The layout feels a little 'rabbit warreny' in places, so outdoor pieces can be easy to miss.

a hot day, but I donned my 'Bigelow' (scarf) for added sun protection

Chaoyang Theatre – acrobatic show

No safety nets, no wires, rarely a spotter standing by…these performers are phenomenal. Then again, when you’re one of 5 motorcyclists simultaneously driving at high speed inside a big metal sphere, or one of 10 people balanced on 1 bicycle, or one of 6 vertically suspended with your backside flipped over the back of your head (did I mention holding on by your mouth?), precision is really everything!
